Keepin' on Truckin'...

Training, training, training. That's what I've been doing lately, so not much to blog on, but wanted to pop in here to keep things going. I do have to say that I like it (the training, that is)! Coach Sherry has me on a great schedule and I feel like I'm making gains; you know, have a bit of pepper in my legs! In addition to the racewalk-specific program, I also do some crosstraining on the two "rest days" and a strength/weights/core program three times a week. Add to that my Iaido training and I have to say I've never felt better! The weather does not generally cooperate this time of year, so I've been relying heavily on my home gym setup (I'm very lucky to have a great setup in my basement, thanks to cheap deals found on Kijiji, and get to watch Turner Classic Movies to boot). My goals for the walking program are races, of course, and I have some good ones coming up in the next couple of months. In March, the Corktown Race in Detroit (with a great costume, if I do say so myself!); in April the Martian Half Marathon in Dearborn (another fun costume) and a 5K in Maui (!!!!!); in May, 5Ks in Sudbury and locally.  After that, more monthly 5Ks up to the October Detroit Half. It's very weird, but I feel the healthiest I've ever felt in my life, with more energy and stamina. I only wish I had chanelled into this when I was much, much younger. Better late than never, I guess....still, can't help wondering what "might have been"...

Going to do a bit of metronome work tomorrow to see if it helps me gauge my pace without a GPS watch. I'll report back on that anon.
